I often infuse abstract concepts with nature scenery because natural surroundings open us up to creative day-dreaming and conceptual pondering that is beneficial for wellbeing and finding solutions, whether personal or in work life.

This short film is a collaboration with award winning film artist, Varoujan Froundjian. Varoujan took one of my paintings and created a wonderful dreamscape.

I am inspired by the power of nature and weather. People can easily feel disconnected by spending so much time in places and situations that do not allow for expansion and creative thinking or feeling. Art in our dwelling spaces promotes peace and productivity because we need a vista through actually going outside during the day and via art/visual imagery. Art is not decor, it so much more than that and has the power to motivate, inspire and enhance our lives. Color, shape, form and texture have a positive impact on people and in particular the colors and forms of nature are essential.

Archangels are said to have dominion over various natural settings (rivers, mountains, etc).

Archangels Raphael, Gabriel and the prophet Elijah inspired these works.

Visual elements of nature feel integrated one to the other (birds, leaves, twigs, etc).

I have painted for doctor’s offices (see Murals page on this site) and wellness centers as well as for schools, libraries and other professional spaces. This piece, “Shin Garden” belongs to a nurse practitioner’s office in Connecticut.

Many of my abstract works are nature inspired. This one is from the Earth Changes Series which I have developed since 2013:

I am deeply inspired by the themes and archetypal characters in fairytales, so some of my paintings are based on the unending richness of those stories. Tree Spirit: Spring is one in a new series reflective of fairytale worlds. This Tree Spirit was at the Bo Bartlett Art Center and then at The Goetchius House before it sold.

Using archetypal characters and scenery from fairytales is for me endlessly fascinating.

This piece, Tree Spirit with Cardinal is at the Columbus Botanical Garden as part of their permanent collection. Being in nature is essential for harmony and inner balance. There is a transcendent quality and simply being quiet outside is so peaceful. For many, cardinals in particular represent loved ones from earlier generations and seeing them becomes a sign of spiritual connection.

This Tree Spirit is at home in Deleware with a private collector.
